Revolver: Bootsy Collins – Groove is in the heart

Ah… could there be a more feelgood song? If this doesn’t make you get up and shake your moneymaker, then you might have recently suffered a terminal funk bypass. The bass-line is a sample of Ron Carter’s playing on Herbie Hancock’s ‘Bring Down The Birds’, and was funky enough on its own, but Bootsy’s interpretation has a more languid, back-of-the-beat feel. The repetitive motif burrows deep down into your bones and lingers long after the track has ended.
