Just over a year ago we lost one of our greatest: Bob Babbitt. As a fully-fledged member of the Funk Brothers, Bob was responsible for more groovalicious bass-lines than you could shake a huge funky stick at. This line from the 1970 single ‘Ball Of Confusion’ illustrates Babbitt’s genius. That simple, repetitive groove, made up of just four notes, acts as the central hook for the song and never lets up. Aside from a triad-based line in the bridge section, Babbitt rides that riff incessantly in a hypnotic fashion that gets some serious head-nodding action on the go. Bob, we miss you and thanks for so many great bass-lines.
