Back in October we asked BGM readers to nominate your favourite bass-related event of 2014. You responded with a flood of entries, some hilarious, many serious, but all highly gratifying: the winning entry goes to Robert Mitchell, who nominated his daughter Millie starting to play bass as his event of the year. He scoops a fantastic Bill Nash PB-57 bass worth £1,300, and is pictured here with Millie and her sister Erin.
“This bass is unbelievable!” Robert tells us. “I have been playing bass for 26 years and it has given me a new burst of inspiration. Millie feels the same way and has even started to play slap on it, which she has never touched on before. I can’t seem to stop slapping the PB-57, it’s really rekindled my love for slap as I’ve mainly been playing fingerstyle for a few years. I can’t wait to try the bass on the next batch of new recordings with my band The Strays (https://soundcloud.com/the-str-1) and my side project The Wrong Way Back (https://soundcloud.com/thewrongwayback)”.
Congratulations to the Mitchell family, thanks to all who entered, and huge appreciation to Bill Nash for the bass. Info: www.nashguitars.com.
